Glory of the Delver

I am a glorious delver! If you play The War Within, you probably already know that in order to complete this meta achievement, you must kill Zekvir all on your lonesome.

I’m a Beast Mastery Hunter using the Open World / Delves Pack Leader build from Wowhead, my ilvl at the moment of the kill was 605. Brann was level 32, he was specced as healer with Unbreakable Iron Idol and Relic of Sentience. It took me between around 20 attempts to complete it.

I used Deadly Boss Mods to warn me of the different phases, a Weak Aura alert to interrupt Enfible Spittle and a macro to counter shot the target of my focus, so I don’t have to swap targets:

#showtooltip Counter Shot
/cast [@focus,exists,harm,nodead][] Counter Shot

There are 3 things to look for:

  1. Interrupt Enfeebling Spittle. Its cast time is 1.5 seconds, so you must practice to use your Counter Shot macro really fast;
  2. You must, in absolute priority, destroy the cocoon that Zekvir creates when he casts Call Web Terror. If you let it hatch, you’ll be incapacitated and probably die from Zekvir’s other spells;
  3. Don’t stand in the shit! Whether it’s Zekvir’s frontal attack or its AOE Fear, run away!

So the whole fight consists in DPSing Zekvir while interrupting its DOT and switching to the cocoons when he summons them. Don’t forget to heal your pets, stay out of his attacks and use your CDs on the cocoons, because they need to be destroyed in priority.

I start the fight by applying Hunter’s Mark, marking Zekvir as target of my /focus, using Misdirect on my pets and already using Mend Pet before pulling.

My greatest advice is to do it again and again until you get comfortable with the mechanics. The amount of attempt isn’t limited and, beside the repair bill, it’s free. Oh, and don’t do like me during my first 10 pulls, make sure that Growl is on!

From A to Zereth

After the fun we had completing the “Breaking the Chains” meta achievement for Korthia, Sardoken and I started working on the one for Zereth Mortis, “From A to Zereth”.

Until now, we’ve downed all the elusive rares, found all the remaining treasures,… the only thing left on the list is to reach exalted with The Enlightened. Since this is fairly easy by just doing world quests and killing rares, it’ll happen soon.

Compared to other meta achievements (think BfA) the Shadowlands ones are pretty easy and fun. The only part that I thought would be hard to get was “Dune Dominance”, even that was completed in the blink of an eye. The screenshot below portrays perfectly what I love in WoW, the huge amount of people for one rare. What a lightshow! I hope this’ll never change!

Right now, I’m searching for all the schematics for protoform synthesis to craft all Zereth Mortis’ pets and mounts. Before Dragonflight comes out, I want to have completed all that Shadowlands has to offer. We need a lot of special materials to craft protoform creatures, and even these are fun to farm. The LFG tool always has farm groups up to get Genesis Motes, and they drop fairly easy.  I think we’ll still be spending quite some time in this zone, if not for the crafting, there are also other fun achievements to complete like “Apocopocolypse Now”.

Now, if the summer heat would calm down again, that would be great. I have other places to be than in my living room. Even though, having more time to work on the blog is a great thing.

Insane in the Membrane

After many Sundays (and when we say many, we mean many) spent killing Goblins, Pirates and Murlocs, we finally made it, we’ve lost our sanity (what little we had)!

Sardoken

Even if I’m used to grind, the last part of the achievement Insane in the Membrane took it to another level. Pickpocketing thousands of Murlocs on the Isle of Quel’Danas really took a piece of my sanity away.

I remember that Sunday afternoon when Soforah and I ventured to Booty Bay to see how hard it was to kill the guards… I don’t know how many hundreds of hours we’ve spent working on that title since then, but one thing is certain, I’ll wear that title until my last day in WoW.

Below is the video of when I completed the achievement, I wanted to make sure I’d never forget that moment.

Soforah

I remember how it all started, a few years ago, with killing thousands of Goblin guards in Booty Bay. It was quite the massacre and, for a long time, we couldn’t enter any Goblin outpost without being attacked by the green little fellows.

When I got exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers, I knew that there was no way back, I just had to get the title “The Insane”. I think that this was my greatest ambition throughout the entire game and, yesterday, we finally made it.

I think that Blizzard knew exactly what they were doing when they chose the name of this achievement. Pickpocketing Murlocs for 34 hours (yes, 34! I’ve kept track of time) took grinding to another level. I think that you must, indeed, be insane in the membrane to be able to complete it.

It’s by far my most favourite achievement in WoW, and I’ll be wearing my new title with pride until the end of time.

Midsummer Fire Festival 2017

An afternoon is all it took to collect the 850 burning blossoms required for the new pet and the new toy.

Our hunters honored and desecrated the fires of Legion, Draenor, Northrend and Outland in order to collect the first 500 burning blossoms. We were short of 20, so we had to go to Hyjal and Twilight Highlands. Finally, we could go to Orgrimmar and buy the set of matches.

That’s the official version of what happened. Another version, however, is that Sardoken is so hot, he caught fire…

Our druids did almost the same tour to collect the remaining 350 burning blossoms, but they didn’t have to go further than Grizzly Hills, they had enough to buy the Igneous Flameling.

Yes, we made all our screenshots in the snow. Today was actually the first day that we could play World of Warcraft after almost 10 days of heatwave. It was still very hot, but it felt so good to play again. Our only wish is that we could have rolled ourselves in the snow of Frostire Ridge.

Underlight Angler

One of the things I love to do in World of Warcraft is “Fishing”. So, when they told me there would be a fishing artifact for Legion, I was absolutely thrilled. The only thing that worried me a little bit were the rumours about how hard it was to get it and that it required an insane amount of fishing. None of that was true!

Already while leveling, I was quite curious to see that famous floating island northwest of Dalaran and our new fishing hero named Conjurer Margos. I directly fished up a fair amount of Drowned Mana on the island to buy “Arcane Lure” from Margos and used that everytime I went fishing.

With the “Arcane Lure” active, you can catch rare bait that grants you a buff in order to catch the rare fish which are needed for the achievement “Bigger Fish to Fry”. What normally should have been a so called long and painful process, was actually a pretty fast and fun way to complete this achievement. Most of the rare baits just give a two minute buff, but some were pretty special and added a funny note to the usual fishing experience.

Once you’ve reached level 110 and completed the “Bigger Fish to Fry” achievement, you can fish up a Luminous Pearl. This pearl can only be caught in pools and will start the quest chain to obtain the fishing artifact. Follow its instructions and head over to Khadgar (Dalaran), he’ll give you the quest “The Dalaran Fountain”, which sends you to Marcia Chase. Once you turn this in, a pearl will appear in the fountain.

Normally, Nat Pagle should appear and offer you the “Fish Frenzy” quest. Note that he might not show up straight (with me he didn’t), after a quick relog and waiting for a minute, he’ll finally appear near the fountain. Accept the quest he gives, it’ll bring you into a three step scenario located on an island infested with murlocs. This scenario is pretty short, but real fun.

I won’t spoil anything, not to ruin the experience. Once you’re done with the scenario, you’ll be sent back to Marcia Chase and she’ll award you with the Underlight Angler!

Now, the real fishing in Legion can begin! You can upgrade the artifact by catching the same rare fish as for “Bigger Fish to Fry”. These rare fish will stop giving fishing xp from now on and will give artifact power instead. Also, don’t do like me and head out to your class order hall for upgrading this epic fishing pole! The artefact forge is the pearl at the Dalaran fountain. There, you can upgrade your pole.

Fishing certainly became more interesting in this expansion. I haven’t started upgrading my “Underlight Angler” yet. I wonder how long it will take.

Meanwhile, happy fishing!
